Are Columbia County Republicans (Dog)Whistling Dixie?
Sharp-eyed Dems have noticed a disturbing trend in the county: homeowners who display both Confederate flags and Republican candidates’ campaign signs. The Copake Democratic Association rightly sees this as a call to action for all of us. As the CDA wrote this week to members,
“We were shocked to see this row of Republican lawn signs in front of a local house which also displays a Confederate flag.
A few weeks ago we wrote to the Columbia Paper to say: “In view of the acts of hate and discrimination which are occurring across our country, we think that voters deserve to know where local candidates stand on these issues”.
We still think so.
In 2016, many of us were devastated by the results of the national election. We continue to be horrified, not only at the actions of the president, but also the waves of violence and bigotry across the country.
As Democrats, we need to stand up for the principles of the Democratic Party. The only way that our outrage will be translated into real change is if we show up at the polls.
Make this election count. Send the message that Democrats will show up at the polls.”
Have you seen similar displays? Please take pictures and send them to email@example.com. Let’s ask our local and national politicians (John Faso, anyone?) about this association, and see if they choose to defend it. Everyone, Republican and Democrat, deserves to know exactly where our representatives stand.
The CCDC campaign office is open for business! Stop by 969 Columbia Street for our grand opening tomorrow night, Friday, October 20. Now that we have our great new office, we can expand our phone banking! Stop by for pizza, and sign up for shifts to help with GOTV. We'll also be calling volunteers to recruit them to help out as we make the big push to November 7th.
NOTE: If you have a laptop, please bring it along to the phone bank. We can set you up with you call sheet on the laptop. Saves a lot of time on data entry!
This week's phone banks:
Friday, October 20, 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. (Phone bank and pizza!)
Saturday, October 21, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:
CCDC Congressional Candidates Forum
Right now, we want everyone’s eyes, time, attention, and focus on electing Democrats to local and county offices. But after Election Day, let's focus on sending John Faso back home to Kinderhook for good!
The Columbia County Democrats, along with NYPAN (New York Progressive Action Network), will sponsor a forum with all those running to take back New York's 19th Congressional seat. The event will be co-sponsored by the Columbia County Democratic Committee and NYPAN. Can you help out? Email Pam Kline at email@example.com.
