KEEPING THE HOME FIRES BURNING
While our attention to national politics is rightly focused on Trump’s appalling State of the Union speech, the release of the Nunes memo, and the spectacle of Congressional Republicans playing politics with federal law enforcement, at home, the CCDC is focused on helping voters prepare for critical upcoming elections.
NY19 CONGRESSIONAL ELECTION
CCDC hosted three CD 19 candidates– Jeff Beals, Antonio Delgado, and Brian Flynn– at Club Helsinki on January 22. Each gave a short introduction outlining positions and experience, followed by questions from the audience. The chairs of the 11 Democratic county committees in the district also met separately with the candidates to better understand their positions and plans.
CCDC hosts the remaining three candidates– David Clegg, Gareth Rhodes, and Pat Ryan– on February 15 at 7:00 pm at Helsinki Hudson, 405 Columbia Street, Hudson, NY 12534.
SPECIAL ELECTION, ASSEMBLY DISTRICTS 102 AND 107
Governor Cuomo is expected to call special elections soon for both of the vacant state assembly seats which represent portions of Columbia County; the election could be as soon as April 24. County chairs of each district have sought candidates, and are confident Democrats will have attractive candidates in each district.
The 107th Assembly District includes portions of Columbia (towns of Austerlitz, Canaan, Chatham, Hillsdale, Kinderhook, New Lebanon), Rensselaer, and Washington counties, while the 102nd Assembly District includes portions of Columbia (towns of Stockport and Stuyvesant), Greene, Schoharie, Delaware, Otsego, and Albany counties.
We will be expected to field the full complement of poll workers (inspectors and poll watchers) for the special election, and will conduct GET OUT THE VOTE efforts as well.
The remainder of Columbia County (Ancram, Claverack, Clermont, Copake, Gallatin, Germantown, Ghent, Greenport, Hudson, Livingston, and Taghkanic) is in the 106th Assembly District, represented by Didi Barrett. Didi is running for re-election in the regular election later this year and is not subject to special election.

CCDC IDEALS IN ACTION
Last week, Stuyvesant Democrat Lee Jamison and others joined almost 300 Capital District residents crowded into the sanctuary of Greater St. John’s Church in Albany for the NYS regional launch of the Poor People's Campaign. Fifty years after Martin Luther King’s Poor People's March, Rev. William J. Barber of North Carolina’s Moral Monday fame and others are launching this new and much-needed movement.
