SPECIAL ELECTION APRIL 24
Make sure you are ready for the April 24 special election, which affects residents of the 102nd (Aidan O’Connor) and 107th (Cindy Doran) Assembly Districts. Absentee ballots were mailed last week, and absentee balloting is now available over the counter at the Board of Elections, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. They will also have extra hours on April 12 and April 19 (open until 7:00 p.m.) and on Saturdays April 14 and April 21, open 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. New-to-the-county voters can register until March 30 by mail and in person at the BOE until April 14. Make sure you vote, and get your friends and neighbors to turn out, too, for these important Assembly seats.
DEMOCRAT RUNNING FOR TACONIC HILLS SCHOOL BOARD
Claverack Town Chair Stephanie Sussman is pleased to announce that Democrat David Baylen of Claverack is a candidate for a seat on the Taconic Hills School Board; the election will take place on May 15, 2018. The Taconic Hills Central School District serves students living in all or parts of the towns of Claverack, Taghkanic, Copake, Ancram, Hillsdale, Ghent, and Austerlitz.
David is an outstanding candidate for school board, having spent more than 3 decades of service in public education. David started his professional career as a high school shop teacher, later a leader in computer technology, eventually rising to the position of Technology Director and School District Administrator in a 5500 student school district on Long Island. There, David was responsible for and gained expertise in large budget and service management, local and state purchasing regulations, technology infrastructure, and emergency preparedness and disaster management. Currently, David is an active member of the Churchtown Fire Company, Chairperson of the Friends of the Claverack Free Library and an AARP trained Volunteer Tax Preparer serving the needs of seniors and low-income residents during the tax season. REPEAL AND REPLACE JOHN FASO
The CCDC State and National Committee will be meeting to interview Erin Collier, the latest candidate to enter the race, on April 19. Meanwhile, opportunities abound to meet all the candidates. Ghent Democrats are hosting Dave Clegg and Antonio Delgado at the Ghent Town Hall (2306 NY-66, Ghent, NY 12075; Corner of 66 and Garage Place) on Saturday, May 19 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. All Democrats are welcome to attend. LEARN FOR OUR LIVES TEACH-IN
March 24 in support of March For Our Lives, including NY-19 Democratic Congressional Candidates
On March 24, students from all over the nation will join the March For Our Lives in Washington, DC and over 400 other locations with their families, teachers and other activists to demand “that Congress immediately enact comprehensive and effective legislation that will protect and save children from gun violence.”
To complement the marches, Indivisible CD19 NY has put together an informative and inspiring LEARN FOR OUR LIVES TEACH-IN. Speakers from a broad range of expertise and experience will share their perspectives, including local students, educators, elected officials, and law enforcement, public health and faith community leaders. Students are especially welcome at this event. In addition, all the NY-19 Democratic Congressional candidates, including the newest candidate, Erin Collier, have been invited to present their positions on combating gun violence followed by a Q&A period.
