Everyone Loves a Parade!

And we’ve got more than our share of parades this month!

Hudson Flag Day Parade

This weekend: Join friends and neighbors and march with us in the Hudson Flag Day parade! All town committees (and all Democrats!) are welcome to follow, as groups or as individuals, behind the main CCDC banner and the red, white, and blue convertibles.

When: Sat June 9. Line up at 12:30pm; parade begins at 2pm.

Where: The parade starts right near the Seventh Street Park, at the intersection of Green Street and State St. If you’re driving in to town, do so early, park at the waterfront, and hop onto a shuttle, before 1:30pm, for a ride to the lineup location (yet to be announced but it will be near State and Green). There will be lots to do in the park! Check out hudsonflagdayparade.org for more details.

Attire: Wear your red, white and blue! Especially blue! We will have small flags and blue baseball caps to wear. (But we’ll ask you to please return caps at the end of the parade!)

Banner carriers are needed. To volunteer, or if you need additional information, please contact Virginia Martin at (518) 755-1521. She will have our exact lineup location, to be released later this week. Also check out the official parade site: hudsonflagdayparade.org

Hudson Pride Parade

Saturday, June 16: Join friends and neighbors and march with us in the Hudson Pride Parade! All town committees (and all Democrats!) are welcome to follow, as groups or as individuals, behind the main CCDC banner and vehicles.

When: Line up at 12:30pm; parade begins at 2pm.

Where: The parade starts right near the Seventh Street Park. Check out outhudson.com or their facebook page for more details.

Attire: Festive and colorful! Especially blue! We will have blue baseball caps to wear. (But we’ll ask you to please return caps at the end of the parade!)

Banner carriers are needed. To volunteer, or if you need additional information, please contact Virginia Martin at (917) 435-2063. He will have our exact lineup location, to be released later next week.

Democratic Primary June 26

It’s coming. Are you ready? If you plan to vote absentee, all the information you need to obtain, complete, and have your ballot counted is HERE. Voting locally? Find your polling place HERE.

Petitioning – Get Ready!

Petition time! (Yes! Again! Yippee! It's a great way to interact with like-minded people!) During June, committee members are responsible for circulating these petitions among enrolled Democrats:
NYS Senate
NYS Assembly
NYS Democratic Committee
Third Judicial Department delegates and alternates
and, in the City of Hudson, Judge

Your town chair has (or will shortly have) petitions, walk lists, and all the instructions you'll need. Lace up those walking shoes, and then, by JUNE 30th, return completed petitions to your chair.

How many signatures do you need? 10% of the registered Democrats in your town. See the Running for Office page on the Board of Elections website, under Political and Petition Calendars, 5% Signature Requirements, Town/Ward/District, and double that number.

This is how we get Democrats on the ballot. There is no substitute and there are no shortcuts! It's small-d democracy in action, and we're all grateful that we have this opportunity to engage in it–at the doorstep and wherever we meet people. Join the fun!

Meet the Candidates

We have some excellent candidates just endorsed by the CCDC.

Tistrya Houghtling for State Assembly District 107

Born and raised in New Lebanon and now serving the public as the elected Town Clerk, Tistrya Houghtling has brought commitment, compassion and service to everything she does.

Tistrya graduated as valedictorian from the New Lebanon Jr/Sr High School in 1997 and, after college, she traveled the country organizing and coordinating multi-thousand person events. Her love of people and attention to detail quickly made her one of the most sought after festival planners in the country.
8 years ago Tistrya returned to her hometown to raise her family and give back to the community that gave her so much throughout her childhood. She now, once again, calls New Lebanon her home with her husband and 3 children, along with their dog and chickens.

Called to public service, Tistrya served as the Deputy Court Clerk in the New Lebanon Town Court from 2010 - 2011 when she got promoted to Court Clerk.  After 5 years of service in the Court, Tistrya ran a successful campaign for Town Clerk winning votes across all party lines, winning a contested race by a 13% margin.

In her 2 1/2 years as Town Clerk, Tistrya has served all of her constituents efficiently and with a smile!

Some of Tistrya's Innovations:
• Tistrya works hard for an open and transparent government by making documents easily accessible on the Town's website
• Sends out regular email blasts,  to keep them apprised of what is going on in their community,
• Mails a quarterly newsletter to all residents specifically reaching our growing senior population who don't use email or have access to the town website.
• Set up two programs when she saw a need in her community for support of families in crisis: the holiday gift drive and the free store.
   - The holiday gift drive connects families in the community who need support providing gifts for their children at the holidays with people in the community who are able and willing to provide this support.
   - The free store works to keep items out of the landfill as well as providing clothing, shoes and children's items to people who need them.  Anybody can come and take what they need for free!
• Tistrya has also worked tirelessly to assist her town in completing high impact actions through the clean energy communities program such as energy bench marking and applying for a grant to install an EV charging station.

Tistrya is running to be the Assemblywoman for District 107, expanding her dedication to serving as a representative for the people. She will bring her passion for service, compassion for people, hard work and dedication to serve all of the communities of Assembly District 107!

New CCDC HQ

We are opening our new Dems Headquarters at 3 Railroad Street in Chatham shortly after the primary. We need visitors and volunteers! If you have time to staff the HQ and can dedicate half a day a week, please contact Tod Wohlfarth or Keith Kanaga – tod@rockpaperpixel.com or keithkanaga@gmail.com.

We are hoping to make it an inviting space for people to come, hang out, chat, phone bank and volunteer. So to that end we are looking for furniture. We have the call center vibe going already, but we need a bit more character to make it homey for people.

We are looking for the following:
Desks
Desk chairs
Loung chairs
Coffee table
End tables
Bookshelves
Literature racks
Surge protector strips
Supplies like trashbags, paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc.

Please send pictures of furniture to tod@rockpaperpixel.com

Hours of Operation are not set yet, but Communications Chair Tod Wohlfarth will be there every Friday from 12-5, starting on June 22nd, to help town chairs and other volunteers with their communications needs. Please email prior if you need an in-depth tutorial or consultation.

Ok, ONWARD to VICTORY in November for all our amazing candidates.
